Asma Derja

Founder & Steward

Asma Derja founded the Ethical AI Alliance to develop and test new approaches to AI governance grounded in lived experience, systemic thinking, and global realities. She approaches governance as a coordination and design challenge, shaped by how institutions function, how power travels across borders, and how technological decisions produce uneven consequences.

Her perspective is informed by more than fifteen years working in large corporate environments, including Big Tech and strategy consulting for Fortune 500 organizations, alongside sustained engagement with civil society and public interest spaces. Coming from a Moroccan-Tunisian background, she brings a global-majority lens to questions of legitimacy, accountability, and governance in technology.

She created the Alliance as an interdisciplinary, global-by-design working space where people across sectors and disciplines collaborate to build governance pathways that move beyond compliance, silos, and Western defaults. As steward of the Alliance, she holds the long-term direction of the work and supports collective experimentation, learning, and shared responsibility.

Sidrah is an experienced AI Ethicist leading AI governance and ethics across various sectors. Sidrah is passionate about AI technology being deployed responsibly and is committed to doing this through her work with Ethical AI Alliance.

Ellen is a tech policy specialist who has worked in civil society on digital regulation in the UK and EU around online safety, in particular focusing on disinformation and online violence.
Vikram Subramanian

I'm Vikram, a software engineer who worked in Microsoft and Google for a combined 23 years. I got more involved with the ethical questions in Technology only in the past two years. This was after I saw my then employer Google break it's own human rights and AI principles to provide Cloud and AI infrastructure to militaries around the world. I got involved with Ethical AI Alliance to find like minded people in the industry and to figure out how we can shine more light on these issues and bring workers' and people's voices back into decisions made by these Big Tech companies that affects all of our lives.
Jumleena Bhagawati

Jumleena is a designer and researcher focused on ethical AI, participatory design, and futures-oriented inquiry. At Ethical AI Alliance, she works on data-visualisation that supports collective sense-making around AI harms.

Dominika is focused on researching cases for the AI harm map,building accountability mechanisms and monitoring frameworks that move beyond compliance to impose real constraints on harmful AI deployment
Kira Kaur

Kira Kaur is an Ethics and AI Governance Advisor combining formal legal training with real-world experience building AI products. Her work focuses on turning AI regulation, ethics, and risk frameworks into systems teams can actually deploy and trust.
Rebecca Y. Gonzales

Rebecca Y. Gonzales is an executive advisor in AI and emerging technologies. She has devoted the last seven years to responsible technology advising enterprise customers on how to enable advanced technologies respecting human rights and dignity while mitigating bias and reducing harm. Her passion is empowering and enabling others to leverage AI for positive change.
